Sweet Treats: As Jersey Food Festival opens for bookings we select some of the more scrumptious offerings

Taking place from Saturday 19-27 May, the Jersey Food Festival is now in its second year and the programme is crammed with even more delicious events.

This year, The Atlantic Hotel is offering a chocolate master class with their new pastry chef, Jarek Nowakowski. Taking place in the Atlantic’s special demo kitchen, this decadent class will be followed by afternoon tea served with Ruinart pink champagne.  (The Atlantic Hotel, St Brelade, 24 May 2-5pm; £95, Tel: 01534 744101)

Staying with tea, the Vintage Tea is designed to take you back a few years. Arrive at Milbrook on the vintage bus before enjoying homemade cakes and scones, cucumber sandwiches and cups of tea served from vintage china. (Coronation Park, 26 May, 3pm; £15 (£20 on bus), Tel: 01534 448877)

You can go even further back in time at The National Trust’s Georgian Event. Held in the 1730s house on New Street, guests will be able to sample 18th century food and drink served by actors wearing traditional costumes from the era. ( New Street, St Helier, 24 May 11am-4pm; £5)

Many people in Jersey will be familiar with Bohemia chef Shaun Rankin’s Treacle Tart, but who has tasted the Bakewell version? The behind the scenes tour of the Channel Island’s Bakery, is an ideal opportunity to see how they make this and many other cakes, breads and pastries. (C.I Bakery, St Saviour, 23 May, 11am-1pm; £5, Tel: 01534 508330)

La Mare wine and chocolates are popular gifts for those wishing to take home a taste of the island, especially when you can see how they are produced. The tour of La Mare includes a wine tasting with La Mare winemaker Daniel de Carteret and a chocolate session with Darren the chocolate maker. (La Mare, St Mary, 22 May 3.30-5pm; £10, Tel: 01534 481178)

Round off the events with a cup of coffee tasting in the 19th century premises of Cooper Coffee, one of Jersey’s oldest businesses. Owner David Warr will show you around. (Halkett Place, St Helier, 22 May 2-3pm; £5,  Tel: 01534 448877)
